Ballasts
A ballast is used to start a fluorescence lamp (energy saving lamp, cfl, pl-l) or a gas discharge lamp (hps, mh). The ballast supplies a peak voltage which ensures that the lamp turns on. In addition, the ballast also ensures that the power remains constant and within the range.
