Description

RUSSELL IPM BOX TREE MOTH PHEROMONE CYDALIMA PERSPECTALIS

The box tree moth (Cydalima Perspectalis) pheromone has a strong lure effect on the male box tree moths. From the capsule, a species-specific sex pheromone is released. This natural pheromone attracts adult male box tree moths into the mothcatcher trap.

Operation in combination with mothcatcher trap
Box tree moths are attracted by the natural pheromone in the monitoring mothcatcher trap and fall into the container. The transparent container makes it easy to keep an eye on how many moths are caught.

Note
The Box Tree Caterpillar moth  [ Cydalima perspectalis ] refill pheromone lure is added to Box Tree caterpillar moth traps where the existing lure has expired or finished.
Each lure is supplied in a foil sachet. Remove lure from sachet and place in lure cage in the top of the trap. If lurres are to be stored or not used on receipt, store in a fridge or freezer.
One pheromone lure will last between 4-6 weeks.

The Pheromone Refill Packs last for 6 months out of the fridge but in a cool store / 1 year in fridge / 2 years in freezer.

Damage
The larvae of C. perspectalis feed on the leaves of box trees but can attack the bark of the trees, causing them to dry out and die (Leuthardt and Baur, 2013). Typical symptoms include feeding damage on the leaf edges, with sometimes only leaf skeletons remaining. Attendant symptoms are webbing of the branches with frass and residues of moulting such as, black head capsules of different sizes. Heavy damage or repeated attacks lead to total defoliation of the trees, the subsequent attack of the bark causing the death of the tree.

Monitoring
Monitoring of the box tree moth (Cydalima perspectalis) populations and their life-cycle can be achieved by using pheromone traps.
